Winslow Church of England Primary School serves the town of Winslow in Buckinghamshire, educating a capacity of 536 pupils between the ages of 3 – 11. In 2018 the school received a letter from the Minister of State for School Standards, congratulating them on their phonics screening check which rated Winslow CofE in the top 9% of all primary schools in the country!
Winslow CofE saw their energy costs rising, as their budgets were reducing.
Their lighting was poor, inefficient and costing the school increasingly more in energy and maintenance.
The school had upgraded to LED on an ad-hoc basis however this had compounded the issue with an uneven light spread in classrooms, and no funds to undertake a site-wide upgrade, particularly as their ceilings contained asbestos.
Watch how Winslow Primary achieved 62% energy savings
We believe the foundations of a successful project is in understanding the customer’s needs and issues. Ineco Energy specified a fully-funded solution to offer reduced energy bills at Winslow Primary School, to improve the learning environment, and to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
Our feasibility survey and energy bill analysis determined the energy-saving opportunity. LED lighting and solar panels would assist the school in achieving its goals, yet also deliver the added bonus of reducing their reliance on grid energy.
Designing the solution
As we do with all schools, a detailed site audit captured building dimensions as well as an asset register. Subsequently, we produced a watertight installation plan to account for all eventualities. Our in-house design team engineered a solution to provide the greatest output while using the least resources. Our experienced teams installed the solution in a controlled and clean manner, skilfully working around the needs of our client. The team had to work with asbestos-containing materials, however, they took additional precautions to ensure a safe and efficient installation.
Positive results for LED and Solar PV
The LED lighting has transformed the school, providing a lighter, brighter learning environment for pupils and staff.
The solar PV panels have attracted praise from parents and pupils for enabling onsite energy generation, while reduced energy bills and carbon emissions have helped the school on its path to a greener existence.
